Handyman Life Skills Station

The Handyman Life Skills Station is a thoughtfully designed activity area that encourages meaningful, hands-on engagement for individuals living with dementia, particularly in memory care and long-term care settings. Built around familiar tools and tasks, this station taps into lifelong skills, routines, and interests—helping residents feel capable, purposeful, and connected.

Many individuals, especially those who worked with their hands or enjoyed fixing things, find comfort and confidence in familiar handyman activities. This station invites residents to explore, sort, assemble, and problem-solve at their own pace, supporting fine motor skills, coordination, focus, and cognitive engagement in a calm, frustration-free way.

The station includes 25 hands-on activities, such as a plumber’s pipe set, tool-based tasks, and a variety of practical handyman-style challenges. Five personal activity kits allow for individualized use, while the included storage container keeps materials organized and accessible. A pegboard makes it easy to hang supplies for visual clarity and independence, and the “Handyman Station – Activity of the Day” whiteboard encourages daily participation and routine.

Ideal for memory care communities, assisted living, and dementia-friendly environments, the Handyman Life Skills Station supports independence, reminiscence, and meaningful daily structure. It can be used independently, during one-on-one sessions, or as part of a larger life skills or engagement program.
